Reviews

Doody's Rating: * * * * *
This book encapsulates the essentials of neuropathology in a consistent, templated format that includes clinical considerations, radiologic findings, pathologic features, differential diagnosis, and prognosis/therapy. This is the first in an anticipated pathology series entitled Foundations in Diagnostic Pathology (series editor: John R. Goldblum).

The major topics of neuropathology are covered, including developmental anomalies, tumors, trauma, vascular disease, infection, autoimmune disorders, metabolic maladies, peripheral nerve and muscle disease, and neurodegeneration. A unique feature is the consistent use of summary charts of material covered in more detail in the book. I was particularly impressed with the first chapter, an overview of CNS anatomy and histology by Dr. Daniel Brat (Emory University), which artfully distills the important elements of a daunting topic.

This is an excellent summary of the essentials of neuropathology. The audience is broad, including general pathologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and neuropathology trainees. The authors are all established authorities in neuropathology, most having written books and chapters in the subject before.
Weighted Numerical Score: 98

Pleased to recommend it to anyone involved in diagnostic neuropathology. Neuropathology is an outstanding addition to the diagnostic literature that is available.
The Journal of Histotechnology, August 2005

Prayson presents a review of essentials of neuropathology, covering both neoplastic and non-neoplastic conditions of the nervous system, which focus on the lesions most commonly seen in practice.
